Police made an arrest Thursday for a gruesome 2007 murder that shocked the community of Manasquan.
Alan Stoedter, 62, has been charged with killing his 43-year-old wife, Donna, last year. Stoedter was picked up at his new home in Lake Hopatcong.
According to Monmouth County Prosecutor Luis Valentin, the arrest took so long due to witness interviews and forensic testing. Valentin says there is sufficient evidence to charge Stoedter, but is asking for the public?s help in finding the handgun used to kill his wife.
?We do not need the weapon to prove this homicide,? says Valentin. ?But it would be an additional piece of evidence."
Neighbors have suspected Stoedter for a while, questioning his choice to drive to the police department and report the crime rather than call 911.Stoedter?s first court appearance is set for Friday. His bail has been set at $3 million.
