Norway soccer fans who gathered for a FIFA World Cup watch party at a Rockway lodge on Saturday were heartbroken over the team's loss against England in the Quarter Finals.
Sons of Norway Fraternal Organization held the watch party at the Nor-Bu Lodge for the big game.
England beat Norway 2-1 in extra time. This was the first time in 28 years that Norway made it into the World Cup.
Fans were sad to see the game end in a loss, but they were still filled with pride to see their team make it this far in a global tournament.
“Yeah, it’s really disappointing," said Dawn Green, Treasurer of the Nor-Bu Lodge. "We have come so far, it’s hard. At the same time, I’m really proud of Norway. It’s been an incredible experience.”
According to Nor-Bu Lodge Vice President Jill Hammaren, the spirit of the World Cup matches transcends the pitch. The beauty of the tournament is watching the world come together.
“It’s so nice to see everyone coming together, respecting each other's cultures over competition. It’s really just been the medicine we didn’t think we needed, or didn't know we needed," Hammaren said.
England will head to the Semi-finals in Atlanta, Georgia on Wednesday July 15.
