(03/10/06) MAHWAH ? Police in Mahwah arrested a resident and threw her in the county jail for not cleaning up her property.
Samantha Moor has owned her home for the past 25 years, but she has recently amassed many summonses for failing to properly maintain her yard. However, Moor claims the poor maintenance stems from a fraudulent contractor. She claims she paid $42,000 to a contractor for repairs to her home that were never completed. Moor claims the individual in question pocketed the money and walked away.
According to Moor, the bogus contractor?s actions left her with no money to fix up her yard and home. Although the contractor was later fined $5,000, Moor says she never received any of that money. Neighbors say the town?s actions in jailing Moor are extreme, and they would like to see town officials work with the woman instead of throwing her behind bars. The town?s zoning enforcement division would not comment on the matter.
