Police in Hopatcong are warning residents of a gas station filling gas tanks with water.
Officers say they received two complaints from people getting gas at the Enrite Gas Station on Hopatchung Road. Mechanics checked the tanks and found they were filled more than halfway with water.
Police then went to the gas station and found more than 4 inches of water in one of the holding tanks.
The owner of the gas station claimed to have no idea how water got in the tanks and covered the cost of repairs.
State regulators, including the Division of Weights and Measures, is investigating.
