Police: Head-on crash leaves 2 teens dead, another injured
Authorities say a head-on crash in Ringwood left two people dead and another injured.
The accident happened Wednesday around 3:15 p.m. on Greenwood Lake Turnpike, just north of Skyline Drive.
According to police, a 1999 Toyota Celica driven by Victor Weinpel, 19, of Wanaque, struck a guardrail and then crossed over into the opposite lane and collided with a Chevy van.
Police say Weinpel and his passenger, a 17-year-old West Milford resident who has not been identified, were pronounced dead at the scene.
The van driver, Paul Barker, 64, of Ringwood, suffered minor injuries and was treated at a hospital.
It did not appear that any other vehicles were involved in the crash.
Authorities say the crash caused major travel delays in the area.
Both were former students at Lakeland Regional High School.
AP wire services helped contribute to this report.
