A fire broke out inside an apartment building downtown Ho-Ho-Kus on Monday.
Officials say it started in a building along Franklin Turnpike. The building houses apartments on the second floor and businesses on the ground floor.
No one was injured in this fire but two apartments were destroyed, according to officials.
The fire broke out a block away from the fire department, which allowed firefighters to get there within minutes.
Flames could be seen reaching out of a window inside of a second-floor apartment. Ho-Ho-Kus police say that no one was inside either residence at the time of the fire.
On the first floor, there are three businesses - Rockport Jewelers, Tojo’s Restaurant and Ho-Ho-Kus Bagels. Police say those businesses will survive, despite some smoke damage.
“So the county health departments will close them down for now, any food will get thrown out unfortunately,” Ho-Ho-Kus Police Capt. Greg McBain said. “One of my officers is with the owner of the jewelry store right now getting all of the expensive stuff out.”
Police confirmed the fire started on the second floor. The cause of the fire is now under investigation.
