Police: East Orange man charged in 5 Bergen County armed robberies

Thomas Johnson, 30, has been charged in a string of armed robberies in gas stations and convenience stores in Bergen County.

A 30-year-old East Orange man has been charged in a string of armed robberies in Bergen County.
Police say Thomas Johnson is charged with five armed robberies in gas stations and convenience stores.
Police say four separate armed robberies were reported on Jan. 22 in a 30-minute window. An individual wearing the same clothing held cashiers at gunpoint at the 7-Eleven convenience store in Fair Lawn, the BP Gas Station in Paramus, and the Valero and Bolla Gas Stations in Mahwah.
On Jan. 25, police say an armed robbery was reported at the 7-Eleven convenience store in Elmwood Park. Johnson is identified as the suspect.
Johnson was charged with armed robbery, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and aggravated assault by pointing a firearm. He is being held at Bergen County Jail.
