Police say a dog was shot by a Newark police officer on Friday.
Authorities say a pit bull charged the officer when he and his colleague tried to reprimand a suspect near his home after he was spotted near his home on Narin Place, leading to the officer using his gun.
This all came after the officer tried to stop a car the suspect was driving before he fled, according to police. After running the plates, they say they found that his license was suspended and registration was expired.
Animal control was at the scene to treat the dog, and the man was arrested.
