Authorities in Morris County say the deaths of a Boonton woman and her 11-year-old son in an icy pond last week have been ruled accidental.
Emergency crews recovered the bodies of 35-year-old Wanda Syed and son Uzair Ahmed on Feb. 23. Syed’s 6-year-old son was found unharmed at the scene.
Police were called to the upper pond area of Grace Lord Park by a person who reported the 6-year-old standing near the water and shouting for his mother. Footprints leading to the water led emergency crews to the bodies, which were found at the top of a dam near a waterfall where the Rockaway River flows through the park.
Authorities did not say how the pair ended up in the pond.
“Out of respect and consideration for family of the deceased, there will be no further comment on the circumstances of the incident,” the county prosecutor said in a statement.
