Police say at least four
people were held at gunpoint and knifepoint by four men in two robberies and
one attempted robbery within a half hour near Rutgers University's College
Avenue campus in New Brunswick.
According to police, the
first robbery occurred at 1:04 a.m. on Hartwell Street in the area of Hamilton
Street, when four men robbed multiple victims at gunpoint before driving away
in a silver SUV.
The second happened around 17
minutes later when a man told police that three men approached him on Delafield
Street, near the intersection with Courtland Street.
Police say one person was
armed with a gun while another punched the victim in the face. They then
drove off in an older model,
dark gray minivan.
A non-student reported at
1:29 a.m. that two men robbed him while they displayed a knife on Prospect
Street near the corner of Somerset Street. The robbers then ran away with his
belongings.
Police said the victims in
the first two incidents are "affiliated" with Rutgers.
