Police say three people were killed in a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 287.
The crash happened on the northbound side of the road in Bernards Township around 10:30 p.m. Saturday.
Officials say 23-year-old Ravi Naik, of Hillsborough, was driving a Hyundai sedan when he struck a cattle trailer that was disabled on the right shoulder of the highway.
A Ford passenger van with 12 passengers then struck the guardrail on the shoulder, the trailer and Naik. The van then traveled across the road, striking the left guardrail.
Naik was pronounced dead at 11:35 p.m. at Morristown Medical Center.
Two passengers in the Ford van was pronounced dead at the scene. More than a dozen other people sustained injuries that were not life-threatening.
Some of the cows were also killed as a result of the crash.
The driver of the cattle trailer sustained minor injuries and was taken to Overlook Medical Center.
Police are currently investigating the crash. There have been no charges filed at this time.
