Authorities: Newark high school cheerleader critically injured in hit-and-run crash
Authorities say it happened around 10:15 p.m. on Sunday on the 500 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard when the victim was walking across the street.

Police are investigating a hit-and-run incident in Newark that left an 18-year-old Newark Arts High School cheerleader in critical condition.
Authorities say it happened around 10:15 p.m. on Sunday on the 500 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. The JAGS cheerleader team was just returning home from a cheer event and the school bus was parked outside the high school.
Police say that according to the school bus driver, the lights on the bus were activated and the stop sign was out. The driver struck Chiara Jones as she crossed the street and drove off.
Sources say that Jones was unresponsive as her classmates watched the driver take off.
Jones was taken to University Hospital for treatment and is listed in critical condition. Police sources tell News 12 that they may be looking for a dark-colored sedan. They are reviewing surveillance cameras in the area.
