The emotional story of a Point Pleasant detective?s battle with cancer and freeholders is coming to the big screen.
Brooklyn documentary maker Cynthia Wade moved in with Lieutenant Laurel Hester and her partner Stacie Andree in the final weeks of Hester?s life. Wade documented her time with the couple. The 40-minute film, ?Freeheld,? focuses on Hester?s battle with brain cancer and the couple?s battle with politicians who refused to give Hester?s pension to Andree.
The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, where it earned a Special Jury Award. Wade says it was a great honor but she has her sights set on an Oscar consideration in the short film category.
