A meeting was held tonight in Upper Freehold at Stonebridge Middle School to discuss New Jersey's slowly growing medical marijuana program.
The decision to build a grow house in Upper Freehold was essentially voted down. The municipality passed an ordinance banning anything the federal government considers illegal.
Currently, federal investigators are cracking down in California.
About 50 members of the community showed up to see the council go against the Breakwater Alternative Treatment Center, who was seeking permits to build on farmland located in Upper Freehold.
The proposed facility would have been located in Upper Freehold Township, a rural area without a local police force.
Attorney Jon Fisher, who represents Breakwater, says they are looking into legal options, which could mean filing a lawsuit.
