An injured dogfish shark was spotted near "B" Beach at the shoreline on Sandy Hook, according to the Gateway National Recreation PIO.
Wildlife officials caught the shark and then released it farther offshore into deeper waters.
There was no threat to beach-goers in the area.
Discovery says the dogfish shark is the most common species of sharks.
