Fifty jobs are being slashed in the Olive County School District as part of budget cuts.
The school board's $79 million budget calls for the elimination of more than 22 teachers, 25 student aides, one librarian and three support staff members.
Middle school athletics are also on the chopping block. Unless the program gets 60 percent of an April budget vote, the athletics will be eliminated.
Some feel the elimination of middle school athletics could put high school athletics in jeopardy as well.
"You may not have as many people competing at the high school level," says district parent Jen Kalkunte.
Employees getting the ax will be informed of their fate next week.
