The pilot of a plane that crashed on Long Island Sunday, killing one person, has been 23-year-old Bronx resident Fazyul Chowdhury.
The plane took off from Republic Airport in East Farmingdale with three people on board on Sunday afternoon, according to Suffolk County police. It crashed in North Lindenhurst after a call came in to the tower about smoke in the cockpit.
According to attorney Oleh Dekajlo with Danny Waizman Flight School, the pilot was a 23-year-old from the Bronx. The two passengers were a 63-year-old mother and a 33-year-old daughter from New Jersey. The mother died in the plane crash, and the pilot and daughter were both transported via helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital.
The National Transportation Safety Board will continue the investigation to determine the cause of the crash.
