The pilot of a single-engine plane killed Wednesday afternoon when his plane crashed into a wooded area in West Milford has been identified.
Reverend Andrew Topp, of North Haledon, was flying a Piper PA-32 when he crashed into the woods.
The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection says the crash happened just after 2:30 p.m. at the Jungle Habitat property near West Milford’s Greenwood Lake Airport.
According to a spokesperson for the DEP, the pilot was the only person aboard the plane.
Topp was praised for his efforts to help build an orphanage in Haiti after the catastrophic earthquake of 2010, and for efforts in Texas this past summer.
A spokesperson for the Federal Aviation Administration says the plane crashed right after it took off from Runway 24.
