Officials in Perth
Amboy today unveiled a historic port marker to acknowledge the city's role in
the trans-Atlantic slave trade.
Perth Amboy hosted
a Middle Passage Remembrance Ceremony today to unveil the marker on
Front Street.
The marker will
acknowledge the city's role in the trans-Atlantic slave trade that transported
about 12 million captive Africans across the Atlantic Ocean to the Americas.
The event also
included a commemoration of those who perished and those who survived the
Middle Passage.
Perth Amboy is one
of 55 Middle Passage arrival sites.
