People flock to the Jersey Shore for unofficial end to summer
Thousands of people spent Labor Day at the Jersey Shore after a weekend of less-than-stellar weather.
Monday saw temperatures reach the mid-80s with mostly sunny skies.
Jersey Shore business owners say that they were worried about this holiday weekend after rainy weather washed out most of Memorial Day weekend.
“[This weekend] was not one for the record books,” says Langosta Lounge manager Jeannie Schlesinger. “Last summer was the perfect summer we could have ever asked for. And this, compared to it, nothing like it unfortunately.”
But Jersey Shore visitors say that they still found some good reasons to smile and enjoy the one good beach day of the weekend.
Gina Rizzo says that she and her family flew in from Houston, Texas, Saturday, after leaving behind a neighborhood flooded by Hurricane Harvey. She says that she didn’t mind having just one day of sunny weather and that she wants to thank all the New Jersey residents for their support during the hurricane.
“It’s also nice to know that people of Jersey are still thinking about the Harvey victims, so please continue to support the state of Texas and send what you can and just pray for everyone,” she says.
People who live in Jersey Shore towns call the time after Labor Day “local summer” because most of the tourists leave and they are able to enjoy the beaches for themselves.
Many tell News 12 New Jersey that they hope the weather holds out for the remainder of the season.
