A pedestrian was struck and killed in Newark early Saturday morning, resulting in the arrest of the driver involved.
Authorities say 25-year-old Christina Cassidy, of Jersey City, was hit by a Honda Civic around 3:30 a.m. while crossing McCarter Highway in the vicinity of Raymond Boulevard.
Police arrested the driver of the Civic, 23-year-old Mauricio Silvera, of Elizabeth, who they say left the scene.
The incident came just two weeks after two New Jersey Transit buses collided in the area, killing two people.
