The pedestrian fatally struck earlier this week in Brielle has been identified.
The incident happened Tuesday around 12:40 a.m. while Bonifacio Garcia-Merino, 27, who was homeless, was crossing Route 71 North at Bradley Avenue.
Police say Dr. James S. McCaugh, 57, of Manasquan, was charged with causing a death while driving on a suspended license, along with two motor vehicle violations.
According to police, Garcia-Merino died at the scene.
