Many pediatric patients and their families will be spending the holidays in the hospital.
But on Wednesday, children at Robert Wood Johnson’s Children’s Hospital in New Brunswick got a pick-me-up from a surprise visitor.
Former New York Yankees catcher and YES Network broadcaster John Flaherty spent the morning handing out Hess trucks to some of the patients.
“There are some situations here that aren't the brightest, but hopefully we can bring a Hess Toy truck and put a smile on somebody's face and make their day. If we can do that, then it's a great way to spend our time,” says Flaherty.
“It’s really something we do as a special moment each and every year. We get to give back thousands of toy trucks every year. In fact, we just hit the millionth toy truck mark,” says Justin Mayer, general manager of Hess Toy Truck.
The Children’s Hospital Foundation has partnered with Hess for the last six years for the distribution.
Hess offers a matching donation program for anyone who wishes to donate. They can do so at the Hess Toy Truck website.
