An unruly passenger incident prompted a law enforcement response Saturday evening on a United Airlines flight arriving at Newark Liberty International Airport.

Port Authority police say they received a report of an altercation aboard United flight 1837 at approximately 6:03 p.m. as the aircraft approached Terminal B. When the plane reached the gate, officers detained a 48-year-old man without incident. He was transported to a hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.

Authorities say one individual declined medical attention, and no other injuries were reported.

United Airlines said local law enforcement met the flight upon arrival to address the situation and credited its crew for maintaining safety onboard.

The flight, UA1837, traveled from Poppy Field Airport in Indiana to Newark Airport and carried 170 passengers and six crew members on a Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft.
