Tenants who live in a Paterson public housing development are looking to the future with hope and concern as they are forced to relocate during a revitalization effort.
After years of trying, the city has been given approval by the federal government to tear down and rebuild five buildings at the Alexander Hamilton Public Housing Development. The new development includes more than 200 townhouses and dozens of affordable homes.
The city?s housing director says tenants will begin moving out of the buildings by the end of the year. The city is now working on a plan to relocate more than 300 families during the revitalization process. The housing director says the city is relying on rent-subsidy vouchers from the federal government. The rebuilding process is likely to take between three and five years.
