Some struggling pet owners in Paterson received a nice gift for their furry friends for the holiday.
On Monday, the city gave way over 200 gift boxes that included leashes, collars and pet food, among other items.
Paterson's Chief Animal Control Officer John Decando said they see a lot of need and wanted to help those who felt they had to choose between their pet or themselves.
"We have people coming up here that want to turn their pets to the animal shelter because they don't have enough money to put food on the table. When they leave here, they walk out with their pet, and they walk out with food. If they need more food, all they got to do is come back and ask, and we'll provide it for them," Decando said.
Donations for the gift boxes came in from St. Hubert’s Animal Shelter.
