Extreme heat across New Jersey is causing power outages.
Some residents in Union County experienced outages as temperatures reached the upper 90s. Power was temporarily out at the intersection of Faitoute and West Colfax avenues in Kenilworth. Residents say this is a dangerous intersection, made even more dangerous due to the traffic lights not working.
The power went out Monday evening for some customers. Some of them say they have not been able to turn on their air conditioning since.
"On a day as hot as this, you're not really able to get a good night's sleep and it really impacts you the next day,” says resident Elvin Guerrero. "At one point, we were in my car with the AC blasting because it's at least a little cooler in that than it is in there."
PSE&G has been reporting fewer outages as Tuesday progressed, but some outages still remained.
Gov. Phil Murphy says that there are cooling centers available across the state. Anyone who needs shelter can visit the state’s cooling center website or call 211.
