Parents are outraged after hearing that traces of asbestos were found in an Asbury Park school.
Bangs Avenue School was closed Friday after test results on a piece of ceiling came back positive for asbestos. The piece of ceiling fell in a classroom on the school?s third floor last week. School officials said they were concerned because the building is 100 years old.
Parents are concerned their children may have been exposed to the cancer-causing substance. ?It had to be in there for a while and they said it could be cancerous,? one parent said. ?These kids come out sick.?
The Department of Environmental Protection performed tests Friday on the building. There is no word on those results. There is also no word on if and when the students will be allowed to finish the school year in that building.
