A Hamilton teenager is issuing a warning to New Jersey drivers about the potential dangers posed by road rage.
Jessica Rogers, 19, is in a wheelchair because of a car crash blamed on road rage. Rogers remembers little about the crash two years ago. She does remember she was riding as a passenger when the driver became enraged at something on the road. Rogers said her friend sped up, lost control and slammed the car into a utility pole.
?Don?t drive crazy. Don?t drive mad. Just drive like you should drive because this could happen to you. This could happen to anybody,? Rogers warned.
Rogers? story has prompted a movement by state leaders to put the brakes on aggressive driving. They want new and harsher punishments for road rage.
The driver who caused Rogers? crash served a few months behind bars.
?I don?t think it?s right. He got six months in jail, two years probation. And what do I have? A lifetime sentence to a wheelchair. It?s not fair,? Rogers said.
Lawmakers say the bill should be completed and submitted in the next few weeks. They plan to call it Jessica?s Law.
