Officials say a fire that destroyed a Newburgh restaurant in 2017 was intentionally set.

The Orange County District Attorney's Office says that the owner of the restaurant and his nephew's wife have been indicted on arson charges.

Zef Gjurashaj, 59, of Newburgh, and Marina Gjurashaj, 37, of Yonkers, were indicted by a grand jury.

The indictment alleges the two conspired with each other to burn down Andiamo Restaurant.

It's alleged the owner knew the business was in a steep financial decline and decided to burn the business for insurance purposes.

Authorities say he hired his nephew's wife to work at the restaurant three weeks before the fire and that she was the one who started the blaze.

Gjurashaj and his niece face up to 25 years in prison for first-degree arson.

They're also charged with conspiracy, insurance fraud, tax fraud and other offenses.

They are now in Orange County Jail without bail, and are expected to appear in court Thursday.
