The City of Paterson recognized one of its own on Sunday for a lifetime of service.
City officials joined family and neighbors for the renaming of East 22nd Street between 17th and 18th avenues as Ora Jane Bell Way.
Bell, a lifelong Paterson resident, has spent decades helping others. From her nearly 30 years working with the Passaic County Board of Social Services to her ongoing volunteer work at local organizations like the Adventist Community Food Pantry and Eva’s Kitchen.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Bell helped provide meals to more than 400 families for 18 months. Her dedication to serving others has made her a beloved figure in the community.
“My heart is so full, full of emotion right now,” Bell said. “To be loved and to be shown love while you are still alive is a big deal.”
Bell, 77, is also a proud mother of four and grandmother of 12. City leaders said naming the street in her honor ensures her contributions will be remembered for generations to come.
The new street sign was unveiled during a ceremony attended by friends, family, and local residents who have been touched by Bell’s work.
