Giving on Thanksgiving is nothing new for Langosta Lounge restaurant owner Marilyn Schlossbach in Asbury Park who provides free meals on the holidays, but this year is a bit different.
Volunteers used to serve a sit-down dinner inside the restaurant, but now this is the second year in a row where they are packing to go turkey dinners.
It still takes the same amount of time and would not be possible without the help of its volunteers.
Langosta Lounge takes distribution for about a week and a half. On Wednesday night, there was a crew with about eight people finishing up the preparations and packing up turkey meals for Thursday.
They got a huge donation of 60 turkeys this week, and Schlossbach and her team processed them in two days - including cooking them.
Food for Thought by the Sea, which was founded by Schlossbach, has handed out tens of thousands of holiday meals since 2008.
“I think it's become a tradition for a lot of families not just homeless people it's a lot of people who don't have other loved ones around or just lonely and want to come and be a part of something,” says Schlossbach.
It has also been a tradition for Schlossbach and her kids to provide Thanksgiving meals for those in need.
