An overturned tanker that spilled hazardous chemicals all over the highway created a nightmare for New Jersey commuters Monday night.
Officials say around 3 p.m., a tanker overturned spilling more than 2,000 gallons of toxic methyl alcohol onto the road as it was making its way from the ramp of Route 440 to the NJ Turnpike. Traffic was backed up for more than 10 miles on 287 as Hazmat crews worked to clean up the spill.
"I couldn't get off for a while everyone was stopped completely,? said one frustrated driver. ?There were green lights but no one could go anywhere."
The driver was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital for leg and chest pains.
