Officials warn of fake American Rescue Plan websites that steal information
The New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness is warning residents to beware of potential scams involving fake American Rescue Plan websites – specifically for people looking to sign up for the child tax credit.
The Internal Revenue Service automatically gave out those payments to people who are eligible. But state cybersecurity officials say that they found 40 fake websites for people looking to sign up.
Officials say that these websites are designed to harvest people’s personal information and are a scam.
People should avoid clicking on any links sent to them via text message or emails.
Anyone interested in finding out more information about the child tax credit should go to the official IRS website on their own.
