Union Township officials say that they have no control and no authority over an anti-President Trump billboard that is up in the town.
“Billboards are privately owned and as such the Township of Union has no authority or role in approving what goes up on each of them,” a town spokesperson posted on the town’s official Facebook page.
Bronx activist Neil Harrison told News 12 New Jersey last week that the billboard is promoting his film “Our Leader The Idiot,” a documentary against the president.
“Manafort was convicted. Cohen’s giving up everything he can, and we’re hoping that Trump is next,” Harrison said. “Basically that's what we are out here for. I’m an activist and that's what I do. And we're trying to drum up some real support here.”
Union Township officials called the billboard “potentially offensive,” but also say that it does not violate any state or local ordinances.
Harrison says that he paid $1,000 to post the billboard.
The billboard space is owned by Outfront Media.
