New Jersey Transit has released video of a bus crash in downtown Newark last month that claimed the lives of a driver and a passenger who was on her way to work.
The Aug. 19 crash occurred around 6 a.m. in the area of North Broad Street and Raymond Boulevard.
Authorities said a bus driven by 27-year NJ Transit veteran Joseph Barthelus was just starting its route and carrying no passengers when it slammed into the side of another bus carrying about 20 passengers.
One of those passengers, 49-year-old Jesy Garcia of Newark, died several hours later at a hospital. Barthelus was also killed.
Eighteen others were hurt, including six who were critically injured.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
