Grief counselors were made available Monday after a librarian at a Lakewood school died in a fire, according to officials.
The fire happened Friday around 11 p.m. in the Silverton section of Toms River, and swept through several homes on the unit block of 15 Street.
Officials say Sara Trahey, 33, who was a media specialist at the Ella G. Clarke school, was unable to escape the fire that was fanned by strong winds. The fire destroyed the home she shared with her husband and three kids, who managed to escape safely.
"Sara Trahey was an amazing educator,” says Principal Deborah Meabe. “She was a beautiful soul."
They say at one point, more than 60 firefighters worked to get the fire under control.  A Toms River police officer was checked out for smoke inhalation.
"There are 720 students here, more than 70 staff," says Michael Inzlebuch, Lakewood School District spokesperson. "There's been a tremendous outpouring from all segments of the community, thanks to the superintendent, principal and head of guidance over the weekend, they have been planning to have support staff here throughout the week."
The cause of the fire has been ruled accidental.
