Officials: Fire severely damages 250-year-old historic building on UCONN Storrs campus

The building was not currently in use, and no injuries have been reported.

Firefighters responded to an early morning fire on the UConn campus in Storrs. The fire broke out in the Whitney House on Route 195 in Storrs in front of Mirror Lake.
UConn officials posted an alert on their campus website
The house was built in 1769 and is UConn’s oldest structure.
The building was not currently in use, and no injuries have been reported.
UConn public safety was notified around 6 a.m. Friday of a fire in the house, which was almost fully engulfed at one point.
Damage is extensive, according to University spokesperson Stephanie Reitz.
The fire was put out around 7 a.m. and the road was reopened.
