A fire in Passaic displaced five families Monday afternoon.
Authorities say that the fire started inside of a home on Passaic Street and then spread to two other buildings.
Passaic Mayor Hector Lora says that firefighters rescued 20 people and that eight firefighters had to be taken to the hospital for heat exhaustion. Temperatures Monday afternoon reached the mid-90s. Lora says that they are expected to be OK.
At least 16 people are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
