Officials say that alarms didn't sound during a fire that ripped through an apartment building in Passaic and left hundreds displaced.
NJ.com reports city officials say a preliminary investigation showed the Oct. 21 fire was accidental. The exact cause was not immediately available.
The blaze injured three firefighters who officials say are in good condition.
The city said in a statement that fire officials confirmed no alarm system activated before or during the fire. It's unclear why they weren't functioning.
Officials say the building was last inspected in July 2015 after a water leak interfered with the alarm system. They say the system was repaired and the violation was corrected.
