(AP) - Former Jersey City housing authoritycommissioner Edward Cheatam is the third person to plead guilty ina corruption sting that produced 44 arrests.
Cheatam, who also served as vice president of Jersey City'sboard of education, pleaded guilty in federal court in NewarkFriday to conspiracy to commit extortion.
Federal prosecutors say another defendant is due in court laterin the afternoon.
Two former Jersey City officials pleaded guilty toextortion-related counts last week.
More than two dozen of the defendants are public officials.They're accused of taking money from a government witness who posedas a developer.
