Officials have confirmed that three people have died in a shooting at the Pathmark on Route 9 in Old Bridge.
News 12 New Jersey has learned the identity of the gunman and the two victims. The gunman has been identified as 23-year-old Terence Tyler. The female victim has been identified as 18-year-old Cristina LoButto. The male victim has been identified as 24-year-old Bryan Breen.
During a news conference this morning, Bruce Kaplan, the Middlesex County prosecutor, confirmed that Tyler, a Pathmark employee, killed LoButto and Breen at the store early this morning and then fatally shot himself. According to authorities, 16 rounds were fired. Police say officers did not fire any rounds.
Mayor Owen Henry also says the shooter was an ex-Marine who had worked at the store about two weeks. He apparently left the store this morning, then returned shortly afterward dressed in camouflage and toting more than one weapon.
Sayreville police, Perth Amboy police and Middlesex County Swat team responded when a 911 call went out. Two weapons found included an AK-47 with multiple magazines, as well as a handgun.
The family of Bryan Breen released the following statement to the media:
"We are shocked and saddened by this sudden loss of life. Bryan was a bright, vibrant and loving son whose time was tragically cut short this morning in a senseless act of violence.
We ask for privacy during this time to try and comprehend today's events. We are also very grateful for all of the support we have received.
The family asks that your prayers are with the two young victims of this crime and to all of the people affected."
