The NYPD says it is searching for seven suspects and nine witnesses after protesters allegedly assaulted two police lieutenants over the weekend.
The NYPD is utilizing social media videos and photos to help track them down.
The alleged assault happened during Saturday's large protest on the Brooklyn Bridge, which was one of the many mostly peaceful demonstrations taking place citywide in response to the grand jury's decision in the Eric Garner case.
According to investigators, the two officers were trying to arrest a man who they say was trying to throw a trash can off a walkway at other cops standing below.
That's when some of the suspects are accused of grabbing, kicking and punching at the officers in a scuffle that was caught on video and posted to YouTube. Police are also reviewing surveillance footage taken from on top of the bridge.
City officials say they're happy to see New Yorkers voice their opinions, but will not tolerate attacks on the NYPD. So far, there have been six arrests during protests this month for assaults against police.
Police Commissioner Bill Bratton also announced that there is a $12,000 reward for anyone with information that leads to an arrest.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
