A New York City police officer accidentally shot a deputy U.S. marshal Thursday during an early morning raid in Jersey City.
The incident happened at a home on Bayview Avenue, where U.S. marshals were executing a warrant for a suspect.
The police officer assisting in the operation opened fire on what has been described by the NYPD as an "aggressive pit bull" that was attacking the marshal.
Five shots were fired, one of which struck the deputy marshal in the foot.
The dog, which was described by a neighbors as never previously being dangerous, was killed.
The marshal's injury is considered not life-threatening after being taken to Jersey City Medical Center in stable condition.
The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office is investigating the incident.
