NWS: Tornado narrowly missed heavily populated area of around 16,000 people

The National Weather Service will continue today to review damage from tornadoes that touched down last Thursday, including one in the Barnegat Township area deep in the woods near the Cedar Bridge tavern historical site.

The National Weather Service will continue today to review damage from tornadoes that touched down last Thursday, including one in the Barnegat Township area deep in the woods near the Cedar Bridge tavern historical site. 
The tornado came about two or three miles east of a heavily populated area -- the Ocean Acres section of Barnegat and Stafford Townships, which is home to about 16,000 people.
The tornado was rated an EF1, with winds up to 110 miles per hour. Trees were pulled out of the ground and tossed in all different directions.
