A nursing home nurse from New Jersey is facing COVID-19 head on, as she, as well as her entire family, is infected with the virus.
Sofia Burke says her mother gave a senior a ride home, and her mom let her guard down for just a moment -- now, seven people in the family have tested positive.
Burke is hospitalized at Hackensack University Medical Center.
“Right now, I feel like everything has been swept from under my feet, literally,” says Burke. “I'm fighting to breathe every day. Something so simple as breathing has become so difficult." Burke’s father died on a ventilator Tuesday, and her mother is home on oxygen unable to breathe on her own. Her 2-year-old child with diabetes also has the disease.
A GoFundMe page has been set up for funeral and medical expenses.
