‘Not a crisis yet’ – Lifeguards, seasonal employees needed as Memorial Day approaches

With the unseasonably warm weather this weekend, many people headed to the beach or are planning to on Memorial Day weekend.
Some municipalities say they are still looking for applicants for seasonal workers, including lifeguards. Huntington Town supervisor Ed Smyth is trying to remain positive.
"It is not a crisis yet," he told News 12.
He says town beaches and pools will be open as usual come next week. But he does admit the town has a staffing shortage when it comes to summer employees.
"Lifeguards, beach attendants, camp counselors...we are in short supply for all of them, but we are going make it work," says Smyth.
The town, like many other municipalities on Long Island, is looking to fill those seasonal positions hopefully before next weekend – the unofficial start of summer.
The town says safety is a No. 1 concern, and beaches and pools will always have the proper staff to open. Huntington officials say to attract more applicants, they have raised hourly wages and are actively recruiting.
