Crowds have already made it down to Seaside Heights for Memorial Day weekend, but there are some new rules now in place.
Officials say that there is now a 10 p.m. curfew in place for those under the age of 18.
This isn’t entirely new to Seaside Heights. The curfew went into effect around this time last year, after a chaotic incident on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. There were reports of shots fired - false reports - but people started running off the boardwalk in what the mayor called “a rampage.”
This year, the curfew is going into effect ahead of the holiday weekend.
There are exceptions for children who are with a parent or guardian or any teens who are working along the boardwalk.
The curfew ends at 5 a.m.
Seaside Heights isn’t the only town taking this step. The Toms River Police Department posted a similar curfew to be enforced on its sections of the barrier island this weekend.
