Norwalk Power announced Wednesday it has sold the Norwalk Harbor Generating Station on Manresa Island to Argent Ventures.
The details of the sale to the New York real estate developer have not been released.
The power plant operated on the 134-acre site for nearly 60 years until it was retired 10 years ago.
Mayor Harry Rilling said in a statement, "The sale of the Norwalk Harbor Generating Station to Argent Ventures is a step forward for the City of Norwalk. The transformation of the property has been a goal of the City for nearly a decade. I want to express my appreciation to the residents of Norwalk, especially those in the Manresa Association, who provided their input over these years in support of finding appropriate uses of the property. We look forward to seeing the existing plant come down and working closely with the community and Argent Ventures as they move forward with a comprehensive vision for the site's reuse that supports open space, resiliency and natural beauty and enhances the quality of life for Norwalk residents. Finally, I want to thank NRG Energy, Congressman Himes, Senator Duff and our Common Council members for all their efforts and collaboration over the years to help make this transition possible."
