Skies will gradually clear tonight, setting the stage for a possible northern lights display across parts of the region.
The NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center reports that a strong geomagnetic storm is underway, which could make the aurora visible much farther south than usual, even into parts of the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast, if skies remain clear.
Those hoping to catch a glimpse should head away from city lights and look toward the northern horizon late tonight.
Thursday will feature plenty of sunshine but will remain breezy and cool throughout the day. Clear skies continue into Thursday night before another bright, seasonable afternoon on Friday with gusty winds at times.
The weekend starts off dry on Saturday, though clouds will increase by evening ahead of rain arriving overnight into Sunday morning. Sunday’s showers should taper off by the afternoon, making way for some sunshine and milder temperatures.
Next week brings mostly dry and seasonable weather with a mix of sun and clouds.
